As a dedicated school counselor, college professor, former UC Berkeley application reader, and parent with 15+ years of experience in college advising, I've been witness to the transformative impact of authentic storytelling in college admissions essays. It's time to even out the opportunities. Many students seeking an advantage in admissions have access to private consultants. I believe everyone should have access to this expertise, and with College Essay Lab®, you can make that possible for every student.

As a classroom teacher, I know how quickly students can become disengaged, which is why I've designed every lesson to be short, visually stimulating, and relevant. Only the most essential essay topics are included.
+ Engaging brainstorming exercises
Students know college essays are critical for admission, but they're typically so confused and stressed about the process that they procrastinate. The result? Last-minute work that leaves students feeling disempowered. In this program, we focus on only the most effective brainstorming exercises so students feel excited to start.
Each week includes a lesson plan, brief video lesson (~5 minutes on average), and accompanying exercise printables for continued learning.

As educators, we know that students learn differently, which is why I've kept multiple learning styles in mind. This program infuses visual aids and real-life writing examples with dynamic brainstorming exercises and discussion to ensure engagement.

From race to gender to ability, each detail of this course was thoughtfully curated to connect with the many students in our classrooms and their unique worldviews. You are the expert of your student population and academic calendar. You choose the number of weeks you'd like to spend implementing the program (4 weeks is merely a suggestion). You decide whether you'd like to deliver the course synchronously in the classroom or provide a link for students to follow the course on their own time.

What do I mean by mini lessons? Most are well under 10 minutes-- and full of visuals, brainstorming exercises, and real life essay topic examples. You're busy (totally get that!) which is why I've included only the most important topics you can pick and choose from.
